In defence of Mi Amore Cadenza

I've noticed a lot of people have been pointing fingers and accusing our new character of being a Sue.

Now, first off, I'm going to say that I hate the term Mary Sue. Nowadays, it's passed out like cheap cigars if some character doesn't show some unimaginable level of flaw (or even if they do). To me, it just seems like a tacky label to stick on a character you aren't fond of.

Secondly, consider this; Cadence only had one episode. We were unable to delve much into her personality, backstory, ect. The real Cadence was locked up in caves for the first half of the two-parter, for Pete's sake. Her screen time was spent doing one of several things: Explaining to Twilight what had happened, trying to escape the tunnels to save her fiancee from being married off to a monster, trying to protect fiance from said monster, and then helping fiance save the day. There was no real time for exposition or a lot of character development in the less than 20 minutes she appeared onscreen. There's probably loads of things we don't know about her.

Third, her powers or the fact she's an alicorn has no bearing on this whatsoever. Collective fanon has made ali's out to be super sepcial, sacred, goldy, rare creatures. But wherp-de-derp, CANON just trashed that by introducing Cadence and having Celestia's ass whooped by a changeling. Nothing has ever been said on alicorns within the show, so what we see is what we get. Also, Cadence's "ability" to make others feel love/positive emotion was show, what, twice? How do we know it doesn't have some sort of fatal flaw to it, or really tight perimeters? Even if they had time to talk about it, I doubt they would. It's a kid's show.

She's just a very kind, inherently good pony. Is there anything wrong with that? Do we HAVE to have every character be ridiculously complicated with horrible pasts and demons that keep them up at night? It was refreshing for me at least for there to be someone on screen who almost followed my mental commands and didn't screw everything up. Due to time restraints, she's not as interesting or developed as the rest of the mane cast is. (Why aren't there people calling Mulia or Discord or Cloudchaser or any other character with almost no development sues?) But what I saw of her made me like her a lot, and unless she returns again and proves to be some perfect goody-two shoes, she's my new favorite pony.

This isn't directed at anyone in particular. I've just had a long-standing pet peeve about "mary sues", and I needed to let off steam. Good day~
